How do I create my own QR or Barcode labels?

In this article, learn how to use BarTender to create QR/Barcode labels that reflect the job and product type information in your Idencia system.

THE SETUP

    1. Select the New Document Icon

      • You have the option of creating a Blank Template or start from an Existing BarTender Document
      • In this scenario we will be selecting a Blank Template

    2. Printer Selection
      • The wizard automatically selects the last printer used, but as this will be for a Barcode Label, you will need to select a Laser Jet Printer.

    3. Stock Selection
      • Here is where you are going to determine the stock properties.
        • You have the option of choosing between Specify Custom Settings or Use a Predefined Stock
        • If you select the Predefined Stock, it presents you with a list of different options by category. One more well know is Avery products. From there you can choose the specific type if desired.
        • In this scenario, we will be selecting the Specify Custom Settings

    4. Page Size
      • In this scenario, we will be working with an A4 size and the orientation will be Portrait.
        • If your pages have more/less labels than shown, you will have the opportunity to change that in a later step.

    5. Printed Item Shape
      • Here you can choose the shape of the individual label.
      • In this scenario, we will be using the Rounded Rectangle.

    6. Margins
      • Here you can choose the Margins for the page.
        • The margins were automatically filled in; however, you will most likely need to measure the page and enter the margins accordingly.

    7. Rows and Columns
      • Here you can choose the number of Rows and Columns for the page.
        • The number of rows and columns were already filled in; however, you might need to change them to match the page.

    8. Template Size
      • Here you can set the Template Size and the Gap/Pitch
        • The Template Size refers to the dimensions of the individual label.
        • The Gap/Pitch refers to any spaces between the labels.
      • In this scenario, we will be keeping the values that were automatically filled in; however, you might need to change them to match the page.

    9. Printing Order
      • Here you will determine the Printing Order.
        • This will correlate with the serialization of the numbers on the Barcode Label.
          • You can determine the corner in which to start and the direction it takes.
          • You can also choose to select the position when you are ready to print.
      • In this scenario, we will be keeping the order as shown in the preview.

    10. Template Background
      • Here you have the option of choosing a Background for the label.
      • In this scenario, we will not choose to have any background.

      • You now have the setup for your label and can begin designing!

THE DESIGN

  1. Creating the Barcode
    • Select the Barcode icon in the toolbar.

      • Here you can see some of the recently used ones, but you will select the More Barcodes
    • This shows an entire list of Barcode Types for several purposes.

      • In this scenario, we will be choosing the standard Code 128
        • Click Select
    • Click anywhere on the design area to add the barcode

  2. Editing the Barcode
    • Right click on the Barcode
    • Select Properties

    • Here is where you can make changes to your Barcode

        • You can change the Object Name and make any comments if desired
      • Symbology and Size

        • You can change the Barcode Type, change the dimensions as well as choose a color
      • Human Readable

        • This relates to the text display with the barcode Ex: 12345678
        • You can change the visibility, placement and alignment
      • Font

        • You can change the Font Type, Style and Size
          • Please note that some types are not compatible with all printers
      • Text Format

        • You can change the Format of the text; single line or paragraph and their relating options
      • Border

        • You can add and format a Border for your barcode

          • The Position can also be moved manually when selected

  1. Adding a Textbox
    • Select the Text icon in the Toolbar

    • You can choose any of the options listed; we are going to choose a Single Line Textbox

  2. Adding a Picture
    • Select the Picture icon in the Toolbar

    • Select where to insert the picture from; we will be choosing 'Insert from File...'34 A

    • You can change the size and location by manually moving the picture within the design area

All that's left is to start printing
