Can I sync only one item at a time?

Overview

There may be instances where you need to work with a handful of items that are outside of the sync time frame specified in your mobile device settings.  But increasing your sync time frame would cause much more data than is necessary to be downloaded, and the amount of time it might take to complete the synchronization process would be cumbersome and time consuming - especially if you need the data quickly. 

Because items are synchronized from the management portal to the mobile device based on the item's last modified date, forcing an update to the item's last modified date will cause the item to be included in the next sync.

Below are a few ways to update an items last modified date.

Via the Management Portal:

  1. Edit one Item at a time in the Item Details screen
    • In fact, no data actually has to be changed.  Simply open the Edit Item page by clicking the pencil icon next to the serial number in the Items list, or click the Edit button on the Item Details page, then click Save.  That's it.  Click Edit. Click Save. Done.  That will set the last modified date of the item to the current date and time.  The next time a mobile device syncs, the item will be included in the sync process.

  2. Edit multiple items via .csv import
    • Again, no data actually needs to be updated.  Your import file can contain as many items as you want and need only include the required Serial Number, Job Number, and Item Type Number columns.  The last modified date of each item in the file will be updated to the current date and time.  The next time a mobile device syncs, the item will be included in the sync process.

Via the Mobile Device:

If you are currently logged in to the mobile application, and you have permissions to update items via the management portal, you can accomplish syncing a single item down to your mobile device using option 1 above, right from within the mobile application.

  1. Tap View Items
  2. Tap the All Items tab
  3. Select any item
  4. Tap the menu icon in the upper right corner 
    • menu This will open the Management Portal Item Details page for the selected item
  5. Tap "Back to List"
    • This will open the Items list
  6. Search for the Serial Number you would like to sync to your tablet that is currently outside your sync time frame
  7. Tap the pencil icon next to the serial number 
    • This will open the Edit Item page
  8. Without making any changes to the item, tap Save
    • This will update the last modified date of the item the same as if you had performed these actions on a desktop computer
  9. Tap the Idencia icon in the upper left corner to return to the mobile application exactly where you left off
  10. Tap Exit, the check mark icon Check, or the Save and Exit button to return to the home screen.

The mobile application will now synchronize. The item you modified in the management portal will be synced to your mobile device.
