Overview
Item Types are categories of items. When Item Types can be configured to include the Process that must be used when a new Item is created, the location of an image or PDF file to use for reference during production (i.e., shop drawing or schematic) and other information common to all Items of that type. A property of an Item Type will apply to all items of that type. Weight or Length, for example would be the same for every 36" diameter, 8 foot long pipe. These would attributes of the Item Type that apply to all items of that type.
Creating Item Types
To create an Item Type, follow these steps:
- Select Setup->Item Types from the Main Menu. The Item Types page will be displayed. This page will show all of the existing Item Types you have created.
- Click Add New. The Create New Item Type page will be displayed.
- Enter the Item Type Number, and Name.
- Optionally, select a Default Process for Items of this type. The Process you want to use must already be created before you can select it from the list. See Idencia Setup - Processes and Understanding Default Processes for more information on creating processes and choosing default processes.
- Optionally, enter the URL of a PDF or image file relevant for the item type. If a file address is added here, the production worker will have the option to view the file on the mobile device by tapping the info icon on any Process data entry screen.
If you use Adobe Acrobat Cloud to store your design drawings, enter the URL of the document library here. When the mobile app user taps the info icon, our seamless Acrobat integration will allow them to view, edit, and annotate Adobe documents right from within the mobile app!
- Optionally, enter a value for any Item Type Custom Property you wish to set. All of the defined Item Type Custom Properties are listed below the Information URL. See Idencia Setup - Custom Properties to learn how to create Item Type Custom Properties.
- Optionally, check the Inactive checkbox to make the Item Type inactive on mobile devices.
- Select the Save button to create this Item Type.
Editing Item Types
To edit an Item Type, select the Edit icon for the Item Type in the Item Types screen. You can edit all of the information of an Item Type at any time, including the values of any Item Type Custom Properties. Below is a list of how editing Item Types affects existing Items.
- If you change the Number of an Item Type, all existing Items of that Type will show this new Number.
- If you change the Name of an Item Type, all existing Items of that Type will show this new Name.
- If you change the Process of an Item Type, only new Items will use the new Process. All existing Items will use the Process that was set when that Item was created.
- If you change the value of a Custom Property on an Item Type, all existing Items of that Type will use this new value.
- If you change the state of the Inactive checkbox, the Item Type will either become available on the mobile device, or unavailable.
Deleting Item Types
If you need to, you are able to delete Item Types on a limited basis. You cannot delete an Item Type if there are any Items created that are associated of that Type.
To delete an Item Type, select the Delete icon for the Item Type in the Item Types screen. A confirmation page will be displayed. Selecting the Delete button will remove the Item Type from the system if there are no existing Items of that type.
Duplicate Item Types
When working with Item Types, there may be situations where you need to create a new Item Type that is similar to an existing one. In such cases, the duplication feature can be helpful. Here's how the process works and what to expect when duplicating an Item Type:

- To duplicate an Item Type, select the Duplicate icon (usually represented by a document icon or similar) for the desired Item Type on the Item Types screen.
- A new Item Type will be created with the same details as the original Item Type, including the Number, Name, Process, and any Custom Property values.
