    3. The Idencia 101 Product Catalog

Now let's create some Item Types!

Creating Item Types

  1. Select Setup->Item Types from the Main Menu.  The Item Types page will be displayed.  This page will contain the list of Item Types that already exist in the Tutorial database.

To create an Item Type for the first product in your product catalog...

  2. Select the New Item Type button.  The Create New Item Type page will be displayed.

Next we'll enter the Item Type Number (i.e., Product Number) for the first item in your Product Catalog.

Since more than one person may be using the Tutorial site, we'll need to differentiate your Item Types from theirs.  To do this, prefix each of your Item Type numbers with your first name followed by a dash.  This will make all of your Item Types unique and will group them together for easy use as you progress through the Idencia 101 tutorial.

  3. Enter <YourFirstName> - 6.15.TG in the Number field.

We'll circle back to the Default Process and Information URL fields later.  For now, scroll down until you find the Custom Properties that are prefixed with your name.

Because the fields on this screen are listed alphabetically, once you find the group of properties prefixed with your name, the first field in the list should be <YourFirstName> - Concrete Class.

  4. Using the Product Catalog as a guide, enter the appropriate values for each custom property, beginning with Concrete Class.

  5. Click Save.  The Item Type Details screen will be displayed for the Item Type you just created.

The details screen will only display fields that have values.  If you only entered data into the fields that were prefixed with your name, your Item Type Details screen will look similar to below.

  6. Using the steps you just learned, repeat this process for at least 1 of the remaining Item Types in the Idencia 101: Product Catalog.  If you think you've got the hang of it after the first 2, feel free to skip the others (though more practice is always better than less).  We'll also learn how to import Item Types in bulk in a later lesson.

When you're finished, return here and continue with the next article in the Idencia 101 Tutorial.

Remember to...

  • Prefix each Item Type name and number with your first name and a dash
