Idencia 101-9: Scenario 2-1: Create an Inventory Process

Create an inventory process

NOTE: This lesson plan is designed for use in our Tutorial system where hands-on exercises and datasets can be created without affecting your Production Idencia system.  If you viewing this lesson plan from within your production Idencia site, please contact your customer liaison for access to our Tutorial site for hands-on learning.

Nice work!  You now have all of your stock products created as Item Types in your Idencia system.  If you haven't already, you can close the Product Catalog tab in your browser.

So, what now?

Your boss was so impressed with your new Idencia skills, he wants you to create an inventory process. Lucky you!

Each piece will need to be tagged with a serial number and assigned to an Item Type.  Your boss would also like to capture the GPS location of each item in the yard, the Inventory Date, and the product's Status  (i.e., Finished Goods or Needs Repair).

Any idea what you'll need to do first?

BINGO! Custom Properties.

Just like you created Item Type Custom Properties to hold data about your product types (diameter, weight, etc.), you'll need to create Item Custom Properties to hold data about each individual Item.  If you need a refresher on Custom Properties, click here to re-read the Custom Properties Overview.

As a reminder, you need to create a custom property for each piece of text information, numeric information, or date information you want to capture about each individual item.  For your Inventory process, that means custom properties for Product Status (text information) and Inventory Date (date information).

The next article in the Idencia 101 tutorial will walk you through creating the Text custom property to capture each item's Status.  Then you can create the Date custom property to capture Inventory Date on your own.
