What are Item Types?

In this lesson, learn about Item Types, how they work, and why you need them.

What are Item Types?

Item Types are categories of kinds of items. All items of a given Item Type will share that Item Type's properties. In many ways, your list of Item Types can be thought of as a product catalog. Your company can have both stock Item Types and custom Item Types defined for specific projects.

Custom Properties

Item Types have different custom properties associated to them. Custom properties could include name, diameter, wall thickness, gap, length, weight, cost, concrete class, or anything that is important for you to track along with your items.

Default Processes

You are able to assign a Default Process for each Item Type. If for example, a manhole has the same Pre-Pour process to use each time one is created, you can ensure that the correct process is associated to that Item Type.
