NCDOT Lesson 3: Recording NCDOT Product & Cast Data

Recording NCDOT Product & Cast Data

Overview

Each product (item) produced for an NCDOT Job must include an RFID tag with a serial number.  This Serial Number is used as a unique identifier for the item and production data about the item will be recorded against this number.  Most of the NCDOT required information about each item is captured when the Custom Item Types are created so, at the time of production, you only need to record when the item was poured and what concrete mix was used. This information is recorded using the Idencia mobile app and an RFID scanner with an Android device.

Similar to recording the product data, the Concrete data is recorded using the Idencia mobile app on an Android device. When the concrete samples are taken, you will record the concrete test data with the mobile app.

Capture Product Data

At the time the tags are being attached to the forms, follow the steps below to capture Concrete Mix and Pour Date information for your products:

  1. Using the Idencia mobile app, log into Idencia to display the Home screen.
  2. Tap the Scan Tag button.

    Note:  If you are casting multiple items in a single pour, each having the same Product Type (Item Type), Pour Date and Concrete Mix, and each being produced for the same job; after tapping the Scan Tag button, activate the "Scan Multiple Tags" checkbox at the bottom of the screen.  This will allow you to scan more than one tag at a time.  The Job, Product Type, Concrete Mix and Pour Date information you capture in later steps will be applied to each of the scanned tags. Using this method, you can scan up to 50 tags at one time and only have to capture remaining information once.

  3. Using your paired or plugged in scanner, scan the product tag(s)
  4. Tap the Jobs tab at the top of the screen
  5. Tap the Job for which this item is being produced
  6. Tap the Item Type being produced.
  7. Confirm that the correct Serial Number, Job and Item Type and tap Next.
  8. Select the Concrete Mix
  9. Select the Pour Date (the current date is set by default)
  10. Tap Next or Finish
  11. Tap Exit

    The application will return to the home screen and sync the data you just collected up to your Management Portal.

Capturing Concrete Data

At the time the concrete is being tested and concrete cylinders are being poured, follow the steps below to capture information about the concrete being used to cast NCDOT products:

  1. From the Idencia Home screen, tap Scan Tag
  2. In the "Scan or enter s/n" field, enter a serial number to represent the concrete tests and cylinders using the format below

    Concrete Test / Cylinder Serial Number Format:  YYYYMMDDpX    Example:  20180526p1

    YYYY = Year of pour
    MM = Month of pour
    DD = Day of pour
    X = Pour number

    Optionally, if you use a printed barcode or rfid tag for the cast, use the Scan Tag button and scan the barcode or rfid tag, then proceed to step 3

  3. Tap Next
  4. Tap the Item Types tab at the top of the screen

    NOTE: Because a single concrete test represents a single pour, and one pour can be used to cast items across multiple jobs, concrete CAST items are not job specific

  5. Find and tap the CAST Item Type
  6. Confirm that the Serial Number and Item Type and tap Next
  7. Enter the concrete test information (air, temp, slump, etc.)

    NOTE:  The cylinder break data will be recorded in a separate process while the NCDOT inspector is present

  8. Tap Finish
  9. Tap Exit

The application will return to the home screen and sync the data you just collected up to your Management Portal.
